3RD SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME: WE ARE RENEWED THROUGH CHRIST’S MISSION

Today’s Gospel presents Jesus’ mission statement, his “inaugural address” in the
synagogue: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me because he has anointed me to bring
glad tidings to the poor, to proclaim liberty to captives, recovery of sight to the blind, and
to let the oppressed go free.”
Jesus didn’t just speak these words; he lived them. He brought freedom to those
trapped in lies, addictions, and oppression. His mission was to illuminate the truth and
liberate humanity. As baptized followers, we are called to join in this mission. Our faith
isn’t just a creed; it’s a call to action. Christ commissions us to share good news with the
poor, free others from the chains of fear or addiction, shine the light of truth in a
darkened world, and build unity as one body in Christ. Each of us is part of this body,
the Church. We have unique roles to play:
Are we Christ’s hands reaching out in service? His heart, showing compassion? Is his
voice speaking the truth?
“The Spirit of the Lord is upon you.” His gifts empower us to live boldly and
courageously, embodying Christ’s mission. Let today be a moment of personal renewal.
Embrace your calling with faith, strength, and joy, knowing we can bring Christ’s vision
to life together.
