3rd Sunday of Easter: The Risen Lord Walks With Us

Blurbs by Rev. Fr. Pete LIteral

The Emmaus Story may be likened to our life story. Two disciples leave Jerusalem
discouraged and confused: Their hopes in Jesus had been crushed by His death. They
felt lost, disillusioned, and without direction.
Then Jesus comes to them…He walks with them in their sadness. He listens and
speaks to them. He explains the Scriptures and God’s plan. At the breaking of the
bread: Their eyes are opened. They recognize Jesus. Their hope is restored.
This is not just the story of the two disciples on the road to Emmaus. It is ours
too.
Like the disciples, we all have our own “road to Emmaus.” These are the moments
when we feel: tired and discouraged, disappointed in life or relationships, burdened by
family struggles, hurt by betrayal or rejection, or simply lost and unsure of where God is.
In those moments, it can feel like God is absent. But the gospel assures us that it is
often when he is closest. Jesus comes to walk with us—quietly, patiently, faithfully.
