Fourth Sunday of Lent – John 9:1–41
Blurbs by Rev. Fr.Pete Literal
The Fourth Sunday of Lent is traditionally called Laetare Sunday, a day when the Church pauses to rejoice as we move closer to Easter. Even in the penitential season of Lent, we are reminded that the joy of Christ’s Resurrection is drawing near.
The theme of today’s readings is spiritual vision. They remind us that it is God who gives us true sight, not only in our physical eyes but also in our hearts and souls.
In the Gospel, Jesus heals a man born blind. This miracle is not only about restoring physical sight. It reveals a deeper spiritual reality. As the man encounters Jesus, his faith grows step by step until he finally recognizes and worships Jesus as Lord. At the same time, those who believe they already “see” remain spiritually blind because their hearts are closed to the truth.
The message is clear: Jesus is the Light of the world, and He comes to open our eyes.
Spiritual blindness can occur when we refuse to recognize God’s presence, when pride closes our hearts, or when we fail to seek the truth of Christ. Yet Jesus continually invites us to experience His healing light.
Our Filipino ministry in the Archdiocese is committed to helping all Filipino-American families grow toward spiritual maturity by encouraging a deeper relationship with Christ. Through prayer, faith formation, mission partnership, and participation in the life of the Church, we are invited to encounter the Lord who enlightens and transforms us.
The journey begins with humility and openness—the willingness to pray as the man in the Gospel did: “Lord, I want to see.”
During this Lenten season, may we open our hearts to Christ, walk in His light, and allow His grace to renew our lives and our parish community.
