3rd Sunday of Lent: Living Water for Our Spiritual Thirst

Blurbs by Rev. Fr. Pete Literal

In today’s Gospel, water becomes a powerful symbol of life. Jesus offers more than ordinary water. He offers living water, a gift that wells up to eternal life. This living water is for anyone who needs it, especially those taking this Lenten journey.

Jesus meets the Samaritan woman at the well and recognizes her spiritual sterility — her fear, isolation, and wounded heart. Gently but truthfully, He confronts her pain and offers healing. Transformed by this encounter, the woman moves from fear to faith and becomes a courageous witness, proclaiming: “Come and see a man who told me everything I ever did.”

During this season of Lent, God also desires to confront and heal our spiritual sterility. Too often, fear, doubt, and unanswered questions keep us from truly opening our hearts to Jesus. Like the Samaritan woman, we may try to deflect rather than engage in a genuine conversation with Him.

Lent invites us to stop deflecting and start listening. Now is the time for honest prayer, for dialogue with God, and for trust. If today we hear His voice, let us not harden our hearts.

Jesus meets us here, offering new life, a renewed heart, and living water that never runs dry. Let us allow Him to transform us — and may this Lent be a true springtime of faith so that our ministry with our brothers and sisters may become refreshing and redeeming
