All Souls’ Day

Blurbs by Rev. Fr.Pete Literal

In today’s Gospel for All Souls’ Day, Jesus reaches out to those who are weary and burdened, to those weighed down by sin. Nothing exhausts the soul more than sin, yet Jesus offers the sweetest rest: His forgiveness. He invites every sinner to turn in repentance and find peace.

When someone dies in sin, our faith reminds us of God’s infinite mercy. We believe in Purgatory, where souls are purified and prepared for heaven. Through the Communion of Saints, we—on earth, in heaven, and in Purgatory—are united in love and prayer. That’s why we offer Masses and prayers for those still on their journey to God.

As Jesus said, “This is the will of Him who sent Me, that I should lose nothing of what He has given Me, but raise it up on the last day” (John 6:39). His death on the Cross shows that every soul is precious to Him. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son” (John 3:16).

Purgatory is not punishment—it is mercy in action. It is hope being fulfilled. God’s love continues to purify and draw us closer to Him, even beyond death.

Today, let us pray for all the faithful departed. May our prayers bring them closer to the joy of heaven. And let us give thanks to God, whose mercy never ends and whose love never fails.

Never lose hope—God’s mercy is stronger than death.
