Today’s Gospel presents a powerful encounter between Jesus and Pilate. Pilate, representing the mighty Roman Empire, stood in his grandeur, while Jesus, a humble carpenter, appeared weak by comparison. Yet, when Pilate asked, “Are you a king?” Jesus responded with a clear statement: “I came into the world to testify to the truth.”
This feast of Christ the King reminds us that true royalty is about testifying to the truth. When we were baptized, we were called to share in Christ’s kingly life and live out that truth daily. As followers of Christ, we are born to testify to the truth in our words and actions, how we live our lives, and our partnership in mission. This feast calls us to reject living, not to commit to our sacred calling, and to claim that we are God’s people entrusted with a sacred mission and equipped to bring about the reign of God. Christ is our King, and His reign must be evident in our life and partnership with Him. Let us recall our commitments to show evidence that we are His people, walk with Him, share our gifts with Him through ministry and mission, and come to celebrate as His people and His goodness every Sunday of the week. We recommit to standing tall as witnesses of our King, living in truth, and serving Him faithfully in all we do.
The challenge for us is to ask ourselves: Are we trying to live as people of truth? Do we truly embrace the partnership in mission with Jesus and fully live the purpose of knowing Him, loving Him, sharing our gifts, serving others outside the parish boundaries, and glorifying Him? Or, like Pilate, do we acknowledge the truth but fail to belong to it, choosing only the parts of faith that suit us?
Christ is King; let His reign shine through us!
