The story of the Prodigal Son is genuinely about the loving and merciful Father, a reflection of God’s boundless love for us. Many of us have turned away from the Lord at times, but God continuously invites us back into His loving embrace.
By coming to our senses, we can return to God. The prodigal son realizes his mistake and says, “Father, I have sinned against heaven and you.” Like him, we must recognize that life apart from God leads to emptiness. St. Paul reminds us, “Be reconciled with God, who is merciful.” Remember, God is always ready to forgive us. “While he was still a long way off, his father caught sight of him and was filled with compassion.” God respects our freedom but never stops watching for our return. The moment we turn back, He runs to welcome us. God meets us with open arms. Jesus assures us that God only asks us to turn toward Him. He will meet us where we are and lead us home. As we continue our Lenten journey, ask yourself: How have I sought reconciliation? Where in my life do I need God’s healing?
As we have been reconciled with God, we are called to be messengers of reconciliation. God calls us to be reconciled with Him and share His mercy with others. Pope Francis reminds us, “God never tires of forgiving us; we are the ones who tire of seeking His mercy.” This week, let us pray for the strength to persevere in repentance and fully embrace God’s love during Lent.
