Simbang Gabi 2024
Simbang Gabi is a Catholic tradition of nine consecutive masses held in the Philippines before Christmas.The tradition originated in the 16th century in New Spain and the Philippine archipelago. Spanish missionaries brought it to the Philippines to deepen the faith of the people.

The Filipino Council is holding its annual Faith and Leadership Assembly for Renewal and Empowerment (FLARE) on Saturday afternoon May 31 at 1 pm at St. John the Evangelist in Hydes, Maryland (Fr Pete's parish). The program will feature a retreat about our journey as missionary disciples - our progress, victories and failures, graces and blessing we have received or will receive, and future goals, and the tools we can use to help us as we strive to advance the Filipino Ministry in our families, workplaces, organizations, and communities.
Come and let the Holy Spirit continue to work in you in these challenging times.The retreat will end with a mass at 5 pm ( satisfying Sunday's obligation). After mass, the Filipino Council will provide dinner. All leaders and officers and members of all mission partner organizations and Filipino-Americans from our parishes are invited. Use the QR code on the attached flyer to register.
Advance registration is required so we can plan seating, snacks, drinks, and dinner."We are hoping to see each and everyone on this momentous event.
