Today’s Prayer by Fr. Pete Literal (March 27,2014)
Abba, Father in heaven, Powerful and Liberating God, You freed us from the power of the devil by the grace we received in Baptism. You warn us to be watchful and vigilant for the evil ones are insidious and persistent in trying to claim us away from You. Please continue defending us by filling our lives with You Spirit of love and devotion to You.
During this season of Lent, set us free from our tendency to be rugged individuals, which in its false independence and pride, prevent us to see the necessity of depending on You for anything. Please melt away our passion for material things as the ultimate goal of living in this world. Protect us from indifference, which makes us either disregard the needs of others or unconcerned with meeting others’ people needs. Liberate us from smug complacency, which makes us feel that simply because we are baptized and has faith, our eternal salvation is already assured and nothing else more is to be done except to fulfill the mere letter of Your law. Help us to be strong by transforming us into unselfish and generous children of Your light. We ask this through Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior. Amen.
