Today’s Prayer by Fr. Pete Literal (April 9, 2014)

Abba, Father in heaven, You are the God of freedom who burns within us. Your Ways are not our ways and Your Thoughts are not our thoughts. We understand that Your love for us is more powerful than the sins we have created. You walk into the fiery destruction we create around us. Please continue to free us from our pettiness, jealousy, fear and self-centeredness, which enslave our hearts and cool our resolve. Please grant us Your grace so that we may be strong enough to guard our hearts and nourish us with Your love. Without You, we easily become slaves to sin and dropouts from Your family, O God. Yes, we believe that if we live according to the teachings of Jesus, Your Son, His truth will set us free. – free us from sin with the liberty to pursue the true purpose of our life.

Father, we call on You to correct the growing problem in our society, that is drug abuse. These drugs, which are addictive, after giving temporary satisfaction, leave some of the children of my brothers and sisters with a driving need for more and more. They lose their freedom; they become slaves of dope. When they do not find the cure, they eventually become dropouts from their family, from society, and from everything. Please come and set them free from this destructive relationship with drugs. Little by little this sin can get hold on them until they become enslaved to them. Although we know that being baptized or being Catholic is not an automatic guarantee of our salvation, please come and intervene into their lives. Teach them Your Word and Your truth, that they may be set free. We ask this through Jesus Christ, Our Lord and Savior. Amen.

“Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who sent his angel to deliver the servants who trusted in him; they disobeyed the royal command and yielded their bodies rather than serve or worship any god except their own God.”
